  • Street Speech is a street newspaper published by the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless since March 2008, and we are always looking for volunteer writers who are interested in addressing socio-economic issues on a local, national and worldwide scope. Our mission at Street Speech is to 1) act as a voice for the most vulnerable of the community while advocating for issues of social and economic justice, 2) foster self-sufficiency by providing a source of income to people living in poverty, and 3) create awareness of issues of poverty and homelessness through content within the publication and positive interaction between vendors and community members. Street Speech currently has a readership of ten thousand, and we’re in the process of growing that number through an emphasis on social media and developing a digital version of our publication. So if you're interested in becoming a part of the team, do not hesitate to contact me.

  • Homeport’s vision is that every person lives in a vibrant community where they are empowered to dream and shape their future. According to our mission, we create and preserve healthy, stable and affordable communities, one neighborhood, one person at a time. Every spring at our rental communities, Homeport hosts Resource Fairs to our residents where we invite community partners to the sites to provide information and resources to our residents of local services and resources that are available to them. In conjunction with these resource fairs, some of the sites will also be hosting a large fresh produce distribution to the residents where thousands of pounds of food from Mid-Ohio Food Bank are available for our residents to take home with them for their families. Volunteers are needed to assist with the setup of the event, welcoming our partners, welcoming residents, completing paperwork with residents receiving produce, distributing produce, breaking down boxes after produce has been distributed, doing activities with the children while the parents are receiving information and other similar tasks. Volunteers are also asked to stay and help with clean up after the event. Here are the dates and times of the fairs that we are looking for assistance at: • Thursday, May 30th 2:00pm – 6:30pm at Pheasant Run Apartments, 2680 Orono Pike, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. • Wednesday, June 5th 2:00pm – 6:30pm at Marsh Run, 2393 Canal Bay Way, Columbus, OH 43232.
